recommendations adopted by the AD HOC OPEN-ENDED WORKING GROUP ON PROTECTED AREAS at its second meeting

FAO, Rome, 11-15 February 2008

[, and urging the Parties and other relevant organizations to actively participate and implement this initiative],] propose to delete this bracket if they do not accept our proposals
Notes: Need to clarify what this initiative will do. JL reported on the five points in the letter sent to the German government. MFF explained that the Government responded and will meet us. Taghi suggested to put in our demands in the German concept note. Sami: could we take it as an opportunity to put in IP standards in the initiative? Palau: FPIC should be included in the negotiation
[Welcoming the adoption of] [Taking note of] the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

Sami: we are asking for a partnership with government where we are treating as equal partners inlcluding rights and needs, not CM where we a re treated as stakeholders. Ramiro: we should only ask for recognition of experiences where communities set up CCAs without asking govt permission.
(b) [Consider incorporation] [Recognize the contribution] of, where appropriate, co-managed protected areas, private protected areas and indigenous and local community conserved areas within the national protected area system [through acknowledgement in national legislation or other effective means];
